Uttar Pradesh reports three fresh swine flu cases in Lucknow

Three fresh swine flu cases have been reported in Lucknow over the past month, prompting the Uttar Pradesh health department to step up surveillance across the state. The patients showed cold, cough and flu-like symptoms before testing positive for H1N1 through ELISA tests at government hospitals, officials said. Health officials advised people to cover their mouth while coughing, wash hands frequently and avoid close contact with those showing symptoms.

Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who holds the health portfolio, directed officials to closely monitor swine flu and viral fever cases, maintain adequate medicine stocks and ensure testing and treatment facilities are available. He asked officials to identify critical patients early and ensure prompt treatment. The state has so far reported 364 swine flu cases till August 25 this year. Health officials said viral infections tend to increase during seasonal changes and advised people with persistent symptoms to seek medical attention without self-medication.
