3 swine flu cases in Lucknow, health dept ups vigil

Three fresh cases of swine flu (H1N1) have been reported in Lucknow over the past month, prompting the health department to step up surveillance and medical preparedness across the city. Patients initially reported cold, cough and flu-like symptoms before seeking treatment at government hospitals, where ELISA testing confirmed the infection.

Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who holds the health portfolio, directed officials to monitor cases of swine flu and viral fever closely and to review testing and treatment facilities at hospitals. He also asked for adequate stocks of medicines to be ensured so that patients do not face delays.

Health officials said viral infections increase during seasonal changes and advised people to cover their mouth and nose while coughing, wash hands frequently, and avoid close contact with those showing symptoms. Testing is available at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital, Balrampur Hospital and Lok Bandhu Raj Narain Hospital. People with difficulty breathing or persistent high fever have been advised to seek immediate medical care.
