Delhi H1N1 cases hit 1,777, health minister reviews preparedness

Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Friday reviewed the H1N1 influenza situation and healthcare preparedness in Delhi, as the capital has recorded 1,777 H1N1 cases this year. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh attended the meeting. Livemint reports that Delhi has recorded 2,602 influenza cases so far this year, with H1N1 accounting for the majority of Influenza-A infections. On Thursday alone, 114 new H1N1 cases were reported in Delhi.

The Health Ministry has urged people to remain alert to symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches, and to seek medical advice for persistent symptoms. The Hindu reports that Nadda emphasised continued vigilance, robust surveillance, and proactive preparedness. The ministry stated it continues to coordinate with states, hospitals, and laboratories for effective surveillance and management of seasonal influenza.

The rise in H1N1 cases is not limited to Delhi. According to Livemint, cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai have also reported increases. Kerala has recorded 7,421 cases and 88 deaths so far this year. However, Telangana health officials said H1N1 cases there are lower than during the same period last year. Delhi health officials said there is no shortage of hospital beds or medicines.
