ABVP leads DUSU president race as counting enters final rounds

Counting for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections is underway at the university's North Campus after a three-year high 40.46% voter turnout. After the seventh round, ABVP's Yash Dabas led the presidential race with 8,825 votes against NSUI's Vijay Shankar Meena's 8,216 votes, a margin of 609 votes, according to New Indian Express. For the vice-president post, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen led with over 11,000 votes, ahead of ABVP and NSUI candidates, as Hindustan Times reported he had already claimed victory on X.

More than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the campus, with traffic restrictions in place. Livemint reported that campaign spending widely violated the Lyngdoh Committee's Rs 5,000 cap, with candidates using mass-printed posters and hired vehicles. The Delhi High Court agreed on September 17 to hear a plea on these violations. Key campaign issues included campus safety and hostel accommodation, especially after the Satya Niketan PG building collapse that killed seven students earlier this month. Results for the four central panel posts are expected later on Saturday.
