AIIMS Delhi recalled faulty syringe batches, ministry tells Rajya Sabha

AIIMS Delhi recalled certain batches of disposable syringes earlier this year as a precautionary measure after user departments raised quality complaints, the Union Health Ministry told the Rajya Sabha on 5 August 2026, The Hindu reported. Responding to a question from MP Haris Beeran, Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav said the affected batches were manufactured by Noble Pharmacare Ltd. and Veekay Surgicals, that no adverse effects on patients had been reported, and that show-cause notices had been issued to both firms while the stock was replaced with fresh supplies. The Ministry said AIIMS follows procurement and quality-inspection protocols, including random sampling and an inspection committee that compares received supplies against bid samples and rejects non-conforming batches, and that the institute has a dedicated Patient Safety and Quality Cell to conduct root-cause analyses of such incidents. The Ministry did not specify the nature of the defects or the number of batches withdrawn.
