AP Assembly monsoon session begins, YSRCP boycotts House

The Andhra Pradesh Legislature's monsoon session began on Monday with the Assembly meeting at 9 am and the Legislative Council an hour later, both summoned by Governor S. Abdul Nazeer. The Business Advisory Committee, chaired by Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, is to finalise the four-day agenda that includes DSC-2025, BC reservations in local bodies, alleged Group-1 recruitment irregularities and investments.

Education Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to make a statement on DSC-2025. Telugu360.com reports that YSRCP MLAs are expected to stay away from the Assembly, though its MLCs will attend the Legislative Council, where the party has stronger numbers. Lokesh told the House the government was prepared to answer every allegation about Mega DSC on the floor and asked former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to take up the issue there rather than at press conferences.

The government plans to introduce seven Bills during the session, including one to withdraw the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Act-2019 and another amending the Municipalities Act. The State Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to consider a report on BC reservations before it is taken up for discussion. With the opposition largely absent from the Assembly, political confrontation is expected to play out in the Legislative Council instead.
