AP-Genco prioritises 24×7 power supply for agri farmers

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (AP-Genco) Managing Director S. Nagalakshmi has called on officials and staff to work collectively to strengthen the state power sector, prioritising uninterrupted daytime power supply to about 22.50 lakh agricultural consumers. She was speaking as chief guest at the 80th Independence Day celebrations at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada on August 16, 2026, The Hindu reports.

Nagalakshmi noted that the state recorded a peak power demand of 15,016 MW on May 21 this year, with peak daily energy consumption of 288.92 million units. Generation rose from 77,640.55 MU in 2024-25 to 79,684.96 MU in 2025-26, and stood at 15,970.11 MU till June in the current financial year. AP-Genco achieved a record generation of 6,009 MW on January 3, aided by improved coal supply and operational efficiency.

To meet future demand, AP-Genco has taken up a 15,680 MW capacity expansion programme that includes the Lower Sileru expansion, Polavaram hydropower project and Upper Sileru Pumped Storage Project. Transmission technical losses fell to 2.6% in 2025-26 through digitalisation and predictive maintenance. Renewable energy projects with cumulative capacity of 112.45 GW have been allocated in the state as of June 2026, the MD added.
