Art exhibition in Hyderabad raises funds for first-generation learners

A fundraising art exhibition titled 'Paropakar 2026' opened in Hyderabad on August 15 to support education for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The show features works by modern and contemporary Indian artists including SH Raza, Akbar Padamsee, Krishen Khanna, Himmat Shah, Thota Vaikuntam and Seema Kohli. It remains open to visitors on August 16 at Spirit Connect, Jubilee Hills.

The event also includes artist-approved prints, serigraphs, etchings, ceramics and sculptures. Prices range from around Rs 25,000 for smaller serigraphs to up to Rs 25 lakh for select works like sculptures. Proceeds will fund a new facility at Nachiketa Tapovan's ashram in Kodgal, Jadcherla, planned to have science and computer laboratories, a library and vocational training.

According to curator Sushma Thota, around 650 students are enrolled across campuses, with nearly 90% being first-generation learners, many from families of daily-wage workers. The institute follows the state syllabus but adds a value-based approach inspired by Swami Vivekananda and Sarada Devi. Class sizes are limited to 25-30 students for more individual attention. Miheeka Daggubati, a partner in the exhibition, noted that many students have had limited formal exposure.
