Vellore man held for killing wife and head constable over property dispute

A 45-year-old autorickshaw driver, K. Aravindan, was arrested by Gudiyatham town police in Vellore on Friday for murdering his wife Thamarai Selvi, a 41-year-old head constable, over a family dispute. The couple had been quarrelling over a share in Aravindan's ancestral property, and Thamarai Selvi had been living separately with their two children for the past two months.

On the day of the incident, Thamarai Selvi was on duty when Aravindan asked to discuss the dispute. They went near a lake where a heated argument broke out. In a fit of rage, Aravindan allegedly stabbed her on the neck with a pair of scissors, killing her on the spot. He also inflicted injuries on himself.

Passersby alerted the ambulance and police. Thamarai Selvi was declared dead at Government Taluk Hospital in Gudiyatham. Aravindan was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore for treatment. A case has been registered, and an inquiry is under way. Separately, The Hindu also reported that Aravindan's brother had filed a petition in July about threats from Thamarai Selvi over the property.
