Awarapan 2 earns Rs 55.75 crore, producer says not a cash grab

Awarapan 2 has earned Rs 55.75 crore net in India and Rs 72.90 crore worldwide in its first two days, according to Sacnilk. The Emraan Hashmi-starrer clashed with Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 but collected nearly double that film's Rs 13.50 crore on Day 2. The film crossed the Rs 50 crore mark on Saturday, surpassing the lifetime collections of several of Hashmi's previous hits, including Jannat and Murder.

Despite its strong box office opening, producer Vishesh Bhatt told Hindustan Times that no distributor initially showed interest in buying the film. In an interview before release, Bhatt said, 'Awarapan 2 is not a cash grab film.' He added that if it were a cash grab, distributors would have come forward. The film, a sequel to the 2007 cult classic Awarapan, also stars Shabana Azmi and Disha Patani.
