Awarapan 2 earns Rs 55 crore, producer denies cash grab

Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 earned Rs 55 crore in its first two days after releasing on August 14, Times Now reports. Producer and co-writer Vishesh Bhatt told the outlet the film is not a cash grab, saying no distributor bought it and he and his team financed the project themselves. The film was made on an estimated budget of Rs 45 crore.

Bhatt also defended casting Disha Patani opposite Hashmi. He said her character is deliberately distinct from Shriya Saran's role in the original Awarapan. Patani, he added, was a good fit for the modern, contemporary part set in another country.

Bhatt confirmed he is planning Jannat 3 with Hashmi and said the script is being developed. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 features Patani, Shabana Azmi, and others.
