Bangladesh beat Australia by nine wickets in historic Darwin Test

Bangladesh have registered their first Test win on Australian soil, defeating Australia by nine wickets in the series-opening Test in Darwin. The victory ended a 23-year wait for a Test win Down Under. Hasan Mahmud set the platform with a six-wicket haul, bowling Australia out for 198. Bangladesh replied with 426, including Tanzid Hasan's century, the first by a Bangladeshi batter in Australia. Australia's Cameron Green scored 104 in the second innings, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz took five wickets to dismiss the hosts for 284. Bangladesh chased 57 with only one wicket down, Mominul Haque hitting the winning boundary.

Bangladesh now lead the two-match series 1-0. A draw or win in the second Test would make them only the second Asian team after India to win a Test series in Australia. The victory was greeted with wild celebrations by the Bangladeshi players, marking what the Free Press Journal called one of the greatest moments in their cricket history. Times Now noted the win also avenged the 2017 home series victory, nine years later.
