Bengaluru court rejects Darshan’s plea to delay approver statement

A Bengaluru court has rejected Kannada actor Darshan's plea to postpone the recording of co-accused Pradosh's statement in the Renukaswamy murder case, allowing the prosecution to proceed as scheduled on September 28. Darshan's legal team had sought a week's delay to approach the Supreme Court against the Karnataka High Court's recent order, arguing the certified copy was received late. The prosecution opposed this, noting the order was uploaded on the court's website the same day it was pronounced, and the court accepted their arguments.

Pradosh, initially accused number 14, was allowed to turn approver, and his detailed statement is expected to shed light on the circumstances of Renukaswamy's alleged murder in June 2024. The Assam Tribune reports that police have made elaborate security arrangements in and around the court premises due to alleged threats to Pradosh from Darshan's fans, with over 40 personnel deployed. The court has directed that his cross-examination will be taken up later, after the main witness's cross-examination is completed, and will occur in Darshan's presence. Telugu360 adds that the same court has rejected Pavithra Gowda's regular bail application, keeping her in judicial custody.
