Heavy rain disrupts traffic in Bengaluru and Hyderabad

Heavy overnight rainfall caused waterlogging and slow traffic across several parts of Bengaluru on Sunday, after weeks of warm weather. The India Meteorological Department recorded 15.9 mm of rain at the Bengaluru City observatory in the 24 hours ending 8:30 a.m., while Kempegowda International Airport saw 94.2 mm. Traffic authorities issued alerts for slow movement from Thubarahalli towards Varthur Kodi and on the BGS Flyover due to rainwater accumulation.

A brief spell of moderate rain also disrupted vehicular movement across Hyderabad on Monday evening, coinciding with the final days of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and heavy vehicles transporting idols for immersion. Traffic was slow at several key junctions including Tolichowki flyover, Chaderghat bridge, and Banjara Hills. The Telangana Development Planning Society recorded 32.8 mm in Khairatabad, 28.5 mm in Allwyn Colony, and 25.5 mm in Kukatpally as of 9 p.m.

Disaster Response Force personnel and HYDRAA teams were deployed to clear waterlogging in Hyderabad. Commuters in both cities were advised to drive slowly, avoid sudden braking, and use alternative routes.
