Benintendi’s RBI single gives White Sox 4-3 win, AL Central lead

Andrew Benintendi's tie-breaking RBI single in the seventh inning lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Chicago has won five of seven games and now leads the AL Central by a season-best 4½ games over the Tigers and Minnesota Twins.

The White Sox took a 3-1 lead in the third on Colson Montgomery's two-run double. Detroit pulled within a run on Eduardo Valencia's home run in the fourth and tied the game on back-to-back doubles by Corey Julks and Gleyber Torres in the fifth. Benintendi's single off reliever Drew Sommers put Chicago ahead for good.

Jordan Hicks earned the win with 1⅔ scoreless innings of relief. Bryan Hudson pitched the ninth for his fifth save. The three-game series concludes Sunday, with Tigers right-hander Drew Anderson facing White Sox right-hander Sean Burke.
