Boating suspended at Ranganathittu as Cauvery swells

Boating at the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary has been suspended after the Cauvery river water level rose sharply. The Forest Department said that 3,000 to 4,000 cusecs of water is being discharged into the river, making boating operations unsafe and impossible.

The decision was taken on August 17 as a precautionary measure. Sanctuary authorities are monitoring the water levels and will decide on resuming boating once the flow subsides.

Ranganathittu is a popular tourist destination near Mysuru. The suspension is expected to affect local tourism until conditions improve.
