Broncos QB Bo Nix to miss preseason opener, will play vs Packers

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix did not play in the team's preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, as he continues recovery from a fractured right ankle suffered in January. Head coach Sean Payton had said earlier in the week that Nix would be held out but would play in the next preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

Nix underwent surgery after the injury and required a follow-up cleanup procedure in April. He has been a full participant in training camp without restrictions and took part in a pregame workout before the Falcons game, showing no obvious signs of trouble. The 26-year-old is entering his third NFL season after helping the Broncos post a 14-3 record and win the AFC West in 2025.

Payton confirmed that Nix will play in the next preseason game, scheduled for Friday against the Packers. Nix threw for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns last season while adding 356 rushing yards and five scores.
