BWF says Indira Gandhi Stadium upgrades address India Open complaints ahead of Championships

NDTV Sports reported that the Badminton World Federation said it was satisfied with renovation work at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium ahead of the World Championships, after complaints about hygiene, unclean toilets and pigeons and monkeys inside the venue during January's India Open. BWF events director Selvaamresh Supramaniam said inspections in January, February, April, June and again this week found toilets renovated, seats replaced, ceilings repaired, roof waterproofed and an anti-pest gel applied to deter birds, and that around 60 stray dogs had been removed by the Sports Authority of India. He said no pigeons or monkeys had been seen in his last three visits, that lighting criticised at the India Open was being addressed with Indonesian consultants, and that cleaning would continue until the tournament begins on 17 August.
