Dahanu bridge project stalled due to lack of funds

A day after TOI reported that a family in Dahanu taluka was forced to wade through a flooded river to cremate a relative, the district administration visited the site. Officials from the zilla parishad construction department said a bridge has been proposed, but the Rs 1-crore project is stalled due to lack of funds. They said they would try to secure the money and move the project forward.

Around 150 families live in Dhodipada in Dhundalwadi, Dahanu taluka. Although a gravel road leads to the local cremation ground, residents must take a 1.5 km detour. They have demanded a bridge over the river for a shorter, safer route, especially for carrying bodies to the cremation ground. The issue came to the fore after the Mukane family lost a member and relatives carried the body through the flooded river.
