EU’s Kallas seeks to hike sanctioned Russian entities by third

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has proposed increasing the number of sanctioned Russian entities by a third, German newspaper Die Welt reported. 'For autumn I am putting forward the most far-reaching sanctions listings since the start of the war,' Kallas told the newspaper, adding that the move would raise the total by a third. The EU has adopted 21 rounds of sanctions since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, currently targeting 3,000 individuals and entities.

Kallas said the sanctions have deprived Russia's war machine of over €1 trillion. Her comments come weeks after the bloc adopted a watered-down package following protracted negotiations among member states, some of whom had objected to tougher measures. The EU diplomat did not specify which entities or sectors would be targeted in the autumn listings.
