CPJ presses Pakistan for information on two journalists missing after PoK protests

The Committee to Protect Journalists has called on Pakistani authorities to disclose the whereabouts of independent journalists Razi Tahir and Muhammad Saif, who CPJ says were taken from their Islamabad office by men in police uniforms on 1 August and have not been seen since, National Herald reported. Police in Islamabad have not publicly acknowledged detaining either journalist. CPJ's Afghanistan-Pakistan representative, Waliullah Rahmani, said the disappearance appears to be part of a wider effort to silence independent reporting on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and noted that Tahir had earlier been detained in June under Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act over his reporting on Imran Khan before being granted bail in July. CPJ also renewed calls for medical care for detained Kashmiri journalist Syed Farhad Ali Shah, who it says has been on a hunger strike since late July. A separate, unconfirmed report cited in the account alleges force, internet shutdowns and restricted access to Al Jazeera in the region.
