Haryana creates four-tier drug demand reduction panels

The Haryana government has set up drug demand reduction committees at the state, district, subdivision, and village/municipal ward levels. The aim is to enable organised tracking of reduction activities and improve cooperation among departments and agencies, an official spokesperson said.

The state-level steering committee, chaired by chief secretary Anurag Rastogi, will oversee the action plan under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). It will track yearly and quarterly goals for awareness, treatment, recovery, counselling, and training. The committee will meet every three months.

At district level, committees led by the deputy commissioner will develop plans and identify at-risk groups. Sub-divisional committees led by the SDM will conduct monthly inspections. At the village level, Nasha Mukti taskforces will be set up for each gram panchayat, involving local administration, police, education, health, youth groups, and senior citizens.
