Indonesia earthquake kills at least 47, thousands displaced

A magnitude-7.7 earthquake, followed by tremors of 6.5 and 6.0, struck Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province on Saturday, killing at least 47 people and displacing thousands. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has dispatched 50,000 aid packages weighing 275 tons (Rediff). Over 3,500 military and police personnel have been deployed (The Hindu). Thousands spent the night outdoors fearing aftershocks, with 341 recorded (The Hindu). Rescue teams are searching for villagers buried under landslides in several regencies (Greater Kashmir). Power outages and blocked roads continued to hamper relief. The East Nusa Tenggara government is considering declaring an emergency to mobilise resources.
