JD(S) functionary assaults traffic cop in Bengaluru

JD(S) state general secretary Manjunath alias Gottigere Manjanna allegedly assaulted a traffic police constable on duty in Bengaluru's Gottigere area on Sunday evening. Constable Arun, attached to Hulimavu traffic police station, had stopped Manjanna's vehicle using a hand signal to allow opposing traffic to pass.

According to the complaint, Manjanna questioned the constable, grabbed him by the collar, and tried to attack him with an aide. A viral video shows Manjanna allegedly attempting to kick the constable while speaking to a senior officer on the phone. The constable was later reportedly made to apologise to Manjanna, which upset junior police personnel.

The deputy commissioner of police (South-Traffic) said the constable had gone home but was called back to enquire. Joint commissioner of police (East) Ramesh Banoth confirmed a case was registered at Hulimavu police station under charges including assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty.
