Delhi man’s throat slit by Chinese manjha in Maujpur

A 35-year-old man, Gaurav Sharma, was injured after a Chinese manjha (glass-coated kite string) slit his throat at the Maujpur traffic signal in northeast Delhi on Saturday. The victim was on a motorcycle when the string got entangled around his neck, causing him to fall and sustain injuries. Passersby rushed him to GTB Hospital, police say he is out of danger. CCTV footage is being examined.

In a separate crackdown in Begumpur, Rohini, police arrested a man named Sandeep with 80 rims of banned Chinese manjha. DCP (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal confirmed the seizure, and officers are tracing the supply source. The Times of India reports this is part of a drive against the sale and use of the banned string, which the National Green Tribunal has prohibited.

This is the third such incident in 10 days in Delhi, Hindustan Times reports. On Wednesday, a three-year-old boy was injured by a loose kite string in Maujpur, and on August 5, a 32-year-old businessman suffered a throat injury in Uttam Nagar. On the same Saturday, a 17-year-old boy received an electric shock while flying a kite in Kalyanpuri after the string touched an 11 kV power line, he is being treated at GTB Hospital.
