Mohanan Kunnummal: Vande Mataram critics don’t know mother

Kerala University Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal said those who refuse to say Vande Mataram do not know their mother, according to siasat.com. Speaking at an RSS youth meet on Saturday, he said Bharat Mata entrusted children to their parents and that the country is called Mother India.

Student groups SFI and KSU accused Kunnummal of pushing the RSS agenda at the university. The LDF and UDF have questioned his appointment by the Governor, alleging it is an attempt to saffronise Kerala's education system. The state government did not recite Vande Mataram at its official Independence Day event, despite a Union government directive.

The Governor, as chancellor of universities, appoints vice-chancellors. The previous LDF government and the current UDF government have both clashed with the Governor over such appointments.
