Navy sailor, wife, two children found dead in Mumbai home

A 30-year-old Indian Navy sailor, his wife and their two young children were found dead at their residence in Navy Nagar, Mumbai on August 15. Mumbai Police identified the victims as Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra, his wife Oma Puranmal Mehra, 28, their three-year-old son Yash and two-month-old daughter.

Police say the sailor was found hanging while his wife and children were found dead on a bed. India Today reports that police suspect the sailor died by suicide and the family may have been poisoned. No suicide note has been recovered. An accidental death report has been registered.

The Indian Navy confirmed the deaths and said it is assisting the police investigation. Post-mortem examinations are underway at JJ Hospital. The exact cause of death will be established after the reports are finalised.
