NCTE to review TET syllabus and qualifying marks

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) will form a sub-committee to review the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) syllabus, exam pattern and qualifying marks, according to the Andhra Pradesh United Teachers Federation (AP UTF). The Union Ministry of Education has separately proposed a comprehensive review of the TET framework, citing representations from teacher associations and the Supreme Court's directive that in-service teachers must pass the test by August 31, 2028.

AP UTF leaders met NCTE officials in New Delhi on Wednesday and submitted memoranda on teacher concerns. The federation demanded a scientific syllabus, subject-wise exams and lower qualifying marks, particularly for in-service teachers. The NCTE assured them of appropriate action, The Hindu reports. The Greater Kashmir report says the Ministry of Education has issued an office memorandum proposing consultations with states, the NCTE and experts, and may amend statutory provisions if needed.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission seeking eligible voter enrolment for the upcoming Teachers' and Graduates' MLC elections, and voting rights for primary and upper-primary school teachers.
