Delhi tribunal awards Rs 2.92 crore to accident victim, Rs 31.7 lakh to woman

A Delhi tribunal has awarded Rs 2.92 crore in compensation to a man who was grievously injured after a car rammed into his two-wheeler on December 30, 2020. The man's plea said the car was driven in a rash and negligent manner.

In a separate case, the same tribunal awarded Rs 31.7 lakh to a woman who lost her arm in a road accident on May 22, 2019. The woman was travelling from Delhi to Bulandshahr when the car she was in hit a cyclist and overturned. The tribunal held the accident was caused by the rash and negligent driving of driver Faizan Ansari.

The woman, an embroidery worker, suffered an 80 per cent permanent locomotor disability in her left upper limb. The tribunal assessed her functional disability at 50 per cent and awarded Rs 12.44 lakh towards loss of future earning capacity and Rs 17.91 lakh for an artificial limb and its future replacements. The insurer has been directed to deposit the award within 30 days.
