Sikkimese rapper UNB assaulted with rods in Arunachal, probe on

Sikkimese rapper Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, known as UNB, was attacked by eight to ten men near Tiwari Gaon in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district on Monday evening, police said. The assault occurred around 6 pm while UNB and his team were returning to Roing after a festival performance in Anini.

His manager, Deep Dhar, told Hindustan Times that two vehicles with mud-covered number plates followed their car for nearly an hour before intercepting them on a secluded jungle stretch. The assailants confirmed UNB's identity and attacked him and Dhar with metal rods, sparing other team members, the manager alleged. UNB suffered head and facial injuries and eye swelling. He is stable after a medical exam, police said. The attackers fled when a truck approached.

An FIR has been registered at Roing police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Officer-in-charge Taniya Uli said poor mobile connectivity and no eyewitnesses are hampering the investigation. Police have alerted check gates and are gathering evidence.
