Telangana police reforms save Rs 90 crore, DGP says

Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand said on Friday that restructuring the police force has saved the government approximately Rs 90 crore. The savings come from withdrawing a 60% additional allowance paid to 573 personnel in the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS units, saving Rs 28.16 crore, and from redeploying 376 police personnel previously assigned to retired officials. The department also reduced its VIP security fleet by withdrawing 20 bulletproof vehicles, seven Fortuners, 18 Innova Crystas, and 58 other four-wheelers.

Anand said the Naxal problem has been largely eradicated, allowing the redeployment of Greyhounds personnel. The 'Fit Cop' programme will be rolled out statewide, focusing on health check-ups and awareness. The state will host a regional conference of DGPs from southern states in October, focusing on cybercrime, drug trafficking, and Left-wing extremism. Anand also called for expediting promotions for officers from the 1992, 1995, and 1996 batches to Additional SP rank.
