Tharoor Backs Moitra After Nadia Eviction Attempt

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has expressed solidarity with TMC MP Mahua Moitra after the Nadia district administration allegedly tried to force her to vacate a circuit house. Tharoor said it is the government's duty to provide her security when a 'mob is baying for her', and urged all democrats to stand with her.

Moitra has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking intervention, and threatened to move court over the alleged harassment. She claimed a large crowd gathered outside the circuit house on Friday night shouting 'Jai Shree Ram' slogans after she refused to leave.

The MP said she was initially allotted a room at the circuit house in Krishnanagar but was later told to vacate. The district administration issued an order stating the circuit house would not be available from the evening of August 14 for annual maintenance, exempting only reservations confirmed before August 13.
