Thousands pay final respects to Bonnie Tyler in Swansea

Thousands of fans lined the streets of Mumbles, south Wales, to pay their final respects to Welsh music icon Bonnie Tyler as her coffin was brought to her former home. Tyler, whose real name was Gaynor Sullivan, died unexpectedly in Portugal on July 8 at the age of 75. Her coffin, draped in the Welsh flag, was transported along Newton Road to Llwynderw as fans placed flowers on the hearse and applauded.

The crowd sang Tyler's signature hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during the emotional tribute. Fans travelled from across Britain and abroad, including from Austria, to witness the procession. Tyler rose to international fame with songs including "I Need a Hero" and "It's a Heartache". She represented the UK at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

A celebration of Tyler's life will be held at Swansea Minster on Monday. The invitation-only service will be broadcast on a large screen at nearby St David's Square for the public. Her coffin will then travel through her home village of Skewen before a private family gathering. Tyler's death drew tributes from figures including then-prime minister Keir Starmer, who called her an "iconic figure".
