Tilted four-storey building in Gopanpally demolished

A four-storey residential building in NTR Nagar, Gopanpally, that developed a sudden tilt on Friday was demolished by authorities on Saturday. The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) evacuated all occupants and cordoned off the area before bringing the structure down using heavy machinery. The demolition began around 1 pm and was completed by 10 pm, according to the Times of India.

The building, constructed five years ago on a 50-square-yard plot without CMC permission, violated safety norms that allow only ground-plus-one on that size. CMC Commissioner G Srijana ordered immediate demolition after a joint inspection by CMC, Hydraa, and town planning officials, the Telangana Today and The Hindu report. CMC stated it will have zero tolerance for unauthorised constructions that compromise public safety.

Officials said cracks may have been caused by excavation on an adjacent site and poor construction quality, the Times of India adds. Assistant city planner Akbar said a case will be filed over the alleged illegal construction, and the plot may be on government land, raising encroachment concerns. The incident follows a fatal seven-storey collapse in nearby Gachibowli on August 22 that killed two workers.
