Vinod Kambly’s life to be adapted into ZEE5 web series

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambly's life story will be told as a Hindi web series titled 'Kambly' on ZEE5, director Abhijeet Deshpande has confirmed. The project, initially planned as a Marathi feature film, was converted to a series format because the material was too vast for a single movie, Deshpande told TOI. Scriptwriting began in 2019, and the series is produced by Ravi Bhagchandka of 200 Not Out Productions, the same house behind the Sachin Tendulkar documentary 'Sachin: A Billion Dreams'.

The series will cover Kambly's journey from being one of India's most gifted young batsmen through the challenges in his career and personal life. Deshpande emphasised that the narrative will not be limited to cricket but will present Kambly as a human being, focusing on his extraordinary talent, achievements, and the struggles that shaped his life. The makers are still searching for a new face to play the lead role, prioritising natural resemblance and personality over star power.

Shooting is planned to begin in November 2026, with the team aiming to complete it in a single schedule of three to four months. After wrapping up 'Kambly', Deshpande will resume work on a biopic of filmmaker V. Shantaram.
