Water security needs collective action, experts say

Experts at a two-day national conclave on water management in Ahmedabad said India's water-security challenge requires policy reforms, technology, sustainable finance and community participation. The 'Bharat Discourses on Water @2047', organised by Udgam Charitable Trust and partners, brought together policymakers, scientists and grassroots leaders to chart a roadmap for a water-secure India by 2047.

The second day focused on turning water conservation awareness into action. A research colloquium discussed strengthening research and innovation for water security and climate resilience, while a governance session stressed coordination between government bodies, communities and stakeholders. Startups and green finance were highlighted for improving conservation and developing climate-resilient water infrastructure.

Padma Shri Bharat Bhushan Tyagi said water security should be treated as an investment in the collective future, with development in harmony with nature. Padma Shri Sethpal Singh said every household and community should view water as a shared responsibility and make conservation a way of life.
