X to Make Government Censorship Requests Visible, Says Elon Musk

Elon Musk announced that X will make government requests for content removal or restriction more visible to users. The platform will notify users when such requests are made, disclose the government body involved, and, where possible, the legal basis for the action. Musk posted on X: "Any censorship required by governments is now clearly visible."

According to Crypto Briefing, as reported by Livemint, X has complied with between 83% and 98.8% of government removal requests since Musk took over, a higher rate than under Twitter's previous management. Separately, the Indian government last July rejected X's claim that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had issued a fresh blocking order covering 2,355 accounts, including Reuters. A ministry spokesperson said X had unnecessarily exploited technicalities and taken over 21 hours to unblock the handles after the government asked it to restore them.
