15 Assam personnel get Independence Day gallantry and service medals

Fifteen personnel from Assam have been awarded gallantry and service medals on Independence Day, including one President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and 11 Medals for Meritorious Service. Inspector General of Police Devojyoti Mukherjee is the sole recipient of the President’s Medal from Assam this year, the Assam Tribune reports.

The 11 Medal for Meritorious Service recipients include five superintendents of police and other ranks. Two fire services personnel and one home guard officer were also honoured. Across the Northeast, several security personnel were recognised: the only gallantry award went to Superintendent of Police Sudhanshu Dhama in Arunachal Pradesh, while Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Sikkim also received medals.

Separately, The Hindu reports that in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu presented President’s Medals to Superintendent Chennupati Bhadraiah and Gopu Rajeev Kumar for Independence Day 2025. For Independence Day 2026, 27 officers across police, fire, and correctional services have been selected for gallantry and service awards.
