Assam flood recedes but 77,000 still affected, 103 dead this year

The flood situation in Assam improved on Thursday, with over 77,500 people affected across four districts, down from nearly 87,000 a day earlier, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported. Golaghat remained the worst-hit district with nearly 35,000 people, followed by Nagaon and Sivasagar. No fresh deaths were reported, keeping the year's flood toll at 103.

The ASDMA is running 70 relief camps and distribution centres for 7,358 people. It distributed rice, dal, salt and mustard oil in the last 24 hours. However, 370 villages remain under water, 9,908.85 hectares of crops are damaged, and the Dhansiri River is flowing above the danger mark at Numaligarh. Infrastructure including embankments and roads has been damaged, and 45,540 domestic animals are affected.
