Bangladesh beat Australia in Darwin for first Test win on Australian soil

Bangladesh claimed their first Test win on Australian soil on Sunday, beating the hosts by nine wickets in Darwin. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took five wickets in Australia’s second innings and earlier scored 65 with the bat. Cameron Green made 104 for Australia, but Bangladesh chased down 57 runs in 14.2 overs. Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 25 and 30 respectively.

Australia managed only 198 in their first innings after winning the toss, before Bangladesh posted 426, built on Tanzid Hasan’s 101, to take a 228-run lead. In the second innings, Australia were bowled out for 284, with Mehidy finishing with five wickets and Hasan Mahmud taking three. The victory is Bangladesh’s second against Australia after their maiden win in Dhaka in 2017.

Bangladesh join India and Pakistan as the only Asian teams to win a Test in Australia. The second Test of the two-match series starts in South Mackay on August 22.
