BJP’s Yatnal seeks cancellation of Zameer Ahmed Khan’s membership

Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, an expelled BJP leader and MLA, has demanded that Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan be stripped of his legislative membership for allegedly insulting the national flag. Yatnal told reporters in Vijayapura on Saturday that Khan refused the in-charge ministership of Vijayanagar district and skipped hoisting the flag on Independence Day.

Yatnal called Khan a “religious fundamentalist and communal-minded leader” and urged the Union government to amend the Constitution to bar anyone who disrespects the flag from contesting elections for life. The demand follows Khan’s reported refusal to take up the district assignment, which Yatnal framed as a deliberate act of disrespect.

The Hindu reported Yatnal’s statements, but Khan’s response or the government’s position has not been detailed yet. No immediate action from the state assembly or Union government has been announced.
