CJP Instagram account briefly taken down on Independence Day

The Cockroach Janta Party’s official Instagram account was taken down on Independence Day and restored later the same day, Rediff.com reports. The student outfit alleged that the action was an attempt to silence its voice on youth and education issues. Founder Abhijeet Dipke condemned the takedown, while the party said it would not be intimidated.

The account was removed as the CJP pursued campaigns on government schools, unemployment and alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The outfit recently held a 37-day protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, according to Livemint, and has since launched its “School Thik Karo” campaign.

Livemint also reports that Dipke backed a CJP volunteer in West Bengal whose father was allegedly killed by BJP-linked men after speaking about poor school conditions. Police confirmed a death in Bankura district but said they had not received a complaint. The CJP has said a team will visit the family.
