Congress accuses BJP, EC of blocking Gen Z voter registration

Congress leader Dr Ragini Nayak has accused the BJP-led government and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of halting the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process, preventing young and first-time voters from enrolling. Addressing a press conference at the AICC office, Nayak alleged that the SSR had been stalled since 2024 and called the move 'vote theft' and 'election chori.' She said the government fears the political awareness of Gen Z.

Nayak criticised the Election Commission's youth registration camps as a cover-up and questioned changes to Form 6 that now require first-time voters to provide details of their parents' or grandparents' previous registration. She argued this exceeds the EC's authority under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Congress said it will continue raising the issue and urged young people to vote.

The Congress also attacked the government over NEET paper leaks and declining education spending. Siasat.com adds that two other Election Commissioners had raised written objections to the Form 6A changes, calling them 'illegal and unauthorised.' The Congress said Gyanesh Kumar should resign or reveal who is behind the alleged vote theft.
