Congress vows to oppose FCRA amendment bill, calls it anti-people

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Sunday vowed strong opposition to the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, calling it unconstitutional and anti-people. Speaking in Alappuzha, he accused the Centre of targeting minorities and NGOs. The bill is expected to be taken up in the final week of Parliament's Monsoon Session. Venugopal also questioned the use of force against students protesting the NEET paper leak in Delhi, demanding answers from Union home minister Amit Shah. The Congress has issued a whip asking all its MPs to be present in both Houses on August 10, 11 and 12 to block the legislation.

The opposition also criticised the proposed delimitation bill, arguing it would penalise states that have successfully implemented population control measures. Venugopal alleged that organisations linked to the RSS receive foreign funds while the government targets other NGOs. He demanded action against RSS ideologue TG Mohandas for alleged defamatory statements about the NEET protests. The Congress leader said the Kerala Police is capable of handling such cases. The party has asked its INDIA bloc allies to ensure full attendance in Parliament during the final days of the session.
