TN lifts FSSAI liquor ban; MP High Court stays separate order

Tamil Nadu has lifted a ban on 11 liquor brands from Enrica Enterprises three days after it was imposed, following an FSSAI inspection that flagged natural identical and artificial flavouring substances. The state excise department said the company appealed and assured compliance, leading to the withdrawal on August 14. An improvement notice of 30 days has been issued.

Separately, the Madhya Pradesh High Court stayed an FSSAI order prohibiting pre-packaged whisky and rum from Associated Alcohols and Breweries. The court, hearing the plea on August 6, said the regulator issued the ban without considering the company's response to a show-cause notice. The next hearing is on September 7.

The FSSAI official in Tamil Nadu said further action would be taken if Enrica Enterprises fails to comply within the 30-day period. The Madhya Pradesh bench also directed the Centre to submit its response within four weeks.
