Tasmac outlet near Vellore nursing college shut after complaints

A Tasmac outlet near a private nursing college at the Arcot Road-Saidapet junction in Vellore was closed on Wednesday, following a report in The Hindu about public nuisance caused by tipplers. The outlet was one of three located next to each other on a busy stretch used by school vans, buses, ambulances, and two-wheelers.

Residents said the outlet had operated for years, creating daily disturbances, especially on weekends when wage workers received salaries. They reported incidents of inebriated persons attacking people and lying on the carriageway, disrupting traffic. A group had petitioned the Chief Minister's grievance cell and the District Collector, noting the outlets were near a temple, a mosque, and a government school.

Based on complaints, Collector P.S. Leena Alex ordered immediate closure of one outlet. Tasmac officials said they are identifying rental accommodation to relocate the remaining outlets soon.
