IIT-Hyderabad plants 10,000 saplings, hoists flag on 100-ft mast

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad marked the 80th Independence Day by planting more than 10,000 native saplings, taking its cumulative plantation on the campus to one lakh. The drive, focused on ecological restoration and biodiversity using native Deccan species, builds on the institute's greening efforts since October 2019, Telangana Today reports.

The day began with hoisting the national flag on a 100-foot-high mast at the main entrance, symbolising aspiration and nation-building. Between 2024 and 2026, IIT-H has planted over 64,000 saplings across more than 75 native Deccan species. Director Prof BS Murty said the events celebrated contributing to the nation in different but interconnected ways.
