Antony Varghese’s Kattalan gets poor reviews on OTT after theatrical flop

Antony Varghese Pepe's action film Kattalan, which released in theatres on May 28, has failed to find a second life on OTT after premiering on ManoramaMAX on August 13. Pinkvilla gave the film a rating of 2 out of 5, calling it a high-scale action entertainer that misfires with an underwhelming narrative. M9.news reports that the film, directed by Paul George, opened to negative reviews despite decent pre-release expectations built on its star cast and a cameo by filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.

According to M9.news, the film ended up as a box office disaster after audiences criticised its weak screenplay, though Antony Varghese's performance and a few action sequences received some appreciation. On OTT, many viewers found the screenplay average and poorly structured, with the second half being disappointing and lengthy fight scenes slowing the film. Lokesh Kanagaraj's cameo also drew criticism for adding little to the story, failing to improve the film's reception.
