Teen boy among six dead in Michigan shootings

A 16-year-old boy and four adults were killed in a series of shootings in rural Michigan on Friday, and the suspect's body was later found in a wooded area alongside a 29-year-old woman, police said. A 13-year-old girl was critically injured but is now in stable condition.

Michigan State Police said officers responded to a home about 170 miles northwest of Detroit on Friday morning, where they found the bodies of the 16-year-old, a 45-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman. The suspect, Chad Hickman, 39, fled the scene. Police later discovered the body of a 53-year-old man at a second home, then the woman's body with Hickman in the woods. All died of gunshot wounds. Police have not said whether the victims were related to each other or to the suspect.

Court records show Hickman was convicted of misdemeanor fourth-degree child abuse in 2024 and sentenced to one year in jail; felony assault and sexual conduct charges were dismissed. Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she was monitoring the situation, offering thoughts for the victims and the Missaukee community. Lieutenant Ashley Miller said the investigation is ongoing.
