19-year-old arrested after shooting at Virginia State University wounds 5

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after five people were shot early Saturday at Virginia State University in the United States. Camron Harris of Henrico was found hiding in a dormitory closet, Chesterfield County Police said, according to the Times of India and Deccan Chronicle. Harris is not a student at the university, and four of the five victims were also non-students. A 21-year-old man sustained critical injuries, while a 20-year-old student was later discharged. The other victims, aged 17 to 23, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have issued eight felony warrants for Harris, including malicious wounding and firearm use during a felony. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or said whether Harris has legal representation. The university had initially said multiple suspects were involved, but police have provided no further details on the search. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff's Office are assisting, the Deccan Chronicle reported.

The shooting occurred just after 1:30 am near the Quad Annexes. A campus lockdown was later lifted. Virginia State University, a historically Black university in Ettrick with about 5,700 students, said that safety remains its highest priority. Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday.
