কুড্ডালোরের ট্রান্সজেন্ডার নারী শমলা গত 22 বছর ধরে মন্দির উৎসব ও সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে তামিল লোকশিল্প পরিবেশন করে আসছেন। তিনি কালী, মারিঅম্মন ও অঙ্গালম্মনের মতো দেবীর ভূমিকা পালন করেন এবং ১০ কেজির বেশি ওজনের পোশাক ও অলঙ্কার পরিধান করেন। এই কাজের মাধ্যমে তিনি ঐতিহ্য সংরক্ষণ করছেন বলে জানান শমলা।
